Uncharted
I don’t have really any free time on my hands, but I’ve managed to work up a few hours to sit down and try out the Uncharted 2: multiplayer beta. Read all about my thoughts on this after the break.

The beta, is pretty straight forward. There are only two modes available: “Beta Competitive Playlist” and “Beta Cooperative Playlist”. There are two teams as well, Heroes and Villains. The Heroes are comprised of all the good guys from Uncharted 2 including Victor Sullivan and Elena Fisher (who were both revealed to be returning recently at E3). There are also two new arrivals, Chloe and Tenzin. Villains however look like a squad of Counter Terrorists. But Villains. So they probably are terrorists. Mercenaries actually. Buuuut anyway. All players start with an AK47 and a M92. You have to gather better weapons much like Halo, but there are still two classes of weapons, Long Arms and Handguns.

Beta Competitive Playlist- Here is what everyone is interested in, shooting each other. Two gametypes are within this playlist. In Plunder is much like Capture the Flag, but the flag is a large golden idol with a handle on top. The player cannot attack while carrying it, but must carry it back to their base and drop it in the treasure chest. But sometimes your treasure chest can be on the second floor of your base. So you have to toss the idol much like a grenade to the second floor. Then use the terrain, to scale your way to the top and place it in the chest. It adds for a very interesting game mechanic, and also, there are two idols in play are once. And of course there is standard Deathmatch mode. This is exactly what you’d expect. Shoot to kill.

Beta Cooperative Playlist-This is simply a level from what I assume will be the Single Player story mode. It’s staged for Three Players. There are several things that require all players to be present and pushing the Triangle button to progress. But it consists mostly of challenging battles in the Warzone City shown in the E3 Gameplay Demo. Characters gather points as the game progresses. I was only able to get into a game with one other player who only had 17 kills to my 53. So, yeah I ended up kind of carrying the weight. We didn’t manage to finish though, as you are only given 3 tries. A single try consists of all the players dying, and started back at a checkpoint (usually the beginning of the last major battle).

Overall, it’s a lot of fun and I wish I had more time to spend with it and try things out. There are still a few bugs here and there, but they are few and far between. For instance, ONCE, a player and myself both tried to grab the idol on Plunder at the same time, and it tried to let both of us pick it up and then nothing happened. Despite that, the game practically feels finished. I’m rather excited for the finished product in November.

Also, check out the super cool E3 2009 TraileR HERE. It feels like the trailer to a summer blockbuster.
